About this blog

Having taught in both public and private schools in different parts of this country, I realized that in order to raise sovereign, soulful and wholesome human beings, a consistently nurturing environment is necessary. They need an environment free from anxiety, fear and apprehension; one that is filled with love, encouragement and hope.
To some this may sound too fairy tale like, but our angelic trusts have to be protected in their natural states to grow strong before exposing them to the harshness of the world. Peeling off the petals of a rose bud does not make it bloom faster, instead it destroys it. With this in mind, I decided to homeschool and yes, delay their exposure to the “real” world and prolong and protect their innocence. This way I can let each grow to their own abilities, interests and talents at their own pace. I can afford them opportunities to try, leave and retry things which may come once or never if they were to be schooled in the traditional way. Seeing years of bright students learn to abuse the system to succeed and not remember anything once they are out, made me want to really educate my children, not just train them. There is a difference between teaching and training and the former is what makes a person whole, so help me God.

    As salaam alaikum,

This makes me want to cry, sis. I also taught school and feel the same way. Although, now and seven children later, I am growing weary of homeschooling. Maashaa Allah, you sound like someone I would love to get to know better.

  3. Assalamu’alaikum Sister,

I had browsed through your article titled, “Tarbiyya” and Mashallah it definitely is a good read. With children exposed to and mimicking on the lines of Hollywoodism, Hana Montana and what not, this would be an ideal fit in today’s context. InshAllah, I plan to circulate this article to as many Muslims as possible InshAllah! In fact with your permission and if my editorial committee is agreeable, I would like to publish this in our “Halal World Magazine”. This is a magazine published in Sri Lanka which covers all aspects of a Halal lifestyle. The 6th Issue is due to be published during the 1st week of January. Please share your thoughts on this.

    JazakAllah Khairan
